5.Nabil Bentaleb
The main beneficiary of a turbulent Tottenham season, Nabil Bentaleb was given a spot in Tim Sherwood's starting XI in 2013-14 and earned himself a spot in Algeria's World Cup squad as a result.
With Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Sandro, Etienne Capoue, Lewis Holtby and Paulinho all jostling for position in the White Hart Lane midfield, Sherwood's decision to select Bentaleb frustrated many supporters, a fact he acknowledged on Tuesday.
"One or two tried to say I was only in the team because Tim Sherwood knew me from the youth teams," Bentaleb told The Sun.
"If people think I am still that little kid, then that's up to them.
"But I have been to the World Cup and I am looking forward to improving even more at Tottenham under the new manager.”
Such honesty is rare among today's insular breed of footballer, but Bentaleb shows a maturity beyond his years – both on and off the pitch.
Lithe, athletic and full of running, Bentaleb can become an excellent midfielder under the right coach. Mauricio Pochettino has a fine history of developing youngsters, with Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers two teenagers who have benefited from his methods, both having sealed moves to elite clubs this summer.
Bentaleb may not be looking to move on but he too can prosper under the Argentine. Sherwood may have brought him into the side, but it is Pochettino who can harness Bentaleb's potential. A big season awaits.
