Arsenal have brought in Colombian Sebastian Perez on trial. He came on as a substitute in the 3-1 victory against Manchester City, in Helsinki on yesterday.
Perez, a defensive midfielder, is said to be the next best thing to come out from Colombia. Incidentally, he is from the same academy as the likes of AS Monaco’s James Rodriguez, and Porto’s Jackson Martinez. The 20-year old is known for speed and well timed tackles. Although he players as a defensive midfielder, he does not see himself as well.
He has said he tries to model his game around the style of the likes of Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Andrea Pirlo.
Perez can be seen as an able backup for Mikel Arteta for Arsenal, and Wenger seems to have made up his mind on signing him, since he played him in a match so close to the start of the season, against a team of City’s calibre, which can raise question marks over Arsenal’s reported move for Luiz Gustavo, the Bayern midfielder. However, Perez hasn’t scored a goal in his fledgling career, which could obviously change, as Wenger works with him.
