More Real Madrid players want to join Arsenal
It was always known that Mesut Ozil’s transfer to Arsenal this summer was big and not just for purely footballing reasons. If there was any doubt left, then Sami Khedira’s purported interest of following in the footsteps of his ‘very, very good friend’ should put any and all doubts at rest.
Khedira and Ozil once formed the German nucleus of Real Madrid’s stellar midfield, however with the record breaking departure of his compatriot to North London and the arrivals of new starlets Isco and Asier Illarramendi, Khedira has had to recede to the background somewhat.
Although Ozil’s departure from Madrid came as a shock to many, Khedira was one of the few to publicly voice his displeasure, “Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer. We are very, very good friends. His departure is a loss also from a sporting perspective. Mesut can make the difference.”
It had long been speculated that Ozil’s arrival as a Gunner would herald in a new era, one that would reverse the previous trend of exiting superstars. From a tactical point of view, although Arsene Wenger has plenty of creative firepower at his disposal, he does lack the luxury of a proper midfield enforcer. Someone of Khedira’s pedigree should add some much needed teeth to Arsenal’s improving back four, not to mention increase their already healthy German contingent.
There have been many reports lately that Arsenal are still interested in signing some more Real Madrid players. Some reports have it that we are interested in Karim Benzema, some others claim it is Di Maria while there are some who believe it is Khedira. However, reports coming from Spain this morning is that Wenger actually tried to sign Sergio Ramos in the last transfer window and he is prepared to go back for the high rated defender in January.
Ramos is said to be the defender Wenger is keen to recruit as the French man tries to make his defense rock solid. Although Mertesacker and Koscielny have been rock solid so far, Wenger is reportedly frustrated with the number of high profile individual errors and as such wants to once and for all put an end to the individual errors by bringing in a more seasoned player.
The reports also claim Thomas Vermaelen will be allowed to go should Wenger manage to get Sergio Ramos in the January transfer window. Ramos’ versatility is a key factor for Wenger according to the reports.
